Great Concert Caps Off Terrific Summer After Hurricane Irene With a strong contingent of State, County, Legislative dignitaries, and the first time many residents could see things in a positive "light," Voyage played on Sunday, Labor Day. On hand to welcome the crowd, along the Mayor Koblenz and members of the Board were Jerry Scharfman representing for Congressman Ackerman, Assemblyman Chuck Levine, Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, Legislator Wayne Wink, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, and Charlie Berman The music, from beginning to end, received unanimous raves. The concert was produced thanks to resident Adam Grayson of Grayrock Productions. Honors went to Eric Kobrick and Marty Litt who established the Challengers Baseball League. The Mayor presented them with Award of Outstanding Leadership and Distinction from the Village for their charitable contributions for children in need. They are "remarkable members of our community" the Mayor emphasized. During the introductory remarks the Mayor thanked the sponsors Penn Toyota and Muscari Fine Flowers and Bloom. He lauded the work of Stacey Siegel, Chair, and Alethea Shapiro, Vice Chair, who initiated the Kids in the Park program. Four major events for children were held this summer including jugglers, singers, and even a magician. Then too, they also offered storytelling and have a host of other events planned for the Fall. "Another great addition this summer was the Park Rules Review Committee chaired by Donna Liebowitz" the Mayor continued. "We are grateful to their members too for the many new changes they proposed and that are now implemented." The members of the Roslyn School Board were also thanked. The Mayor had worked with the President, Meryl-Ben Levy, Adam Haber and others ensure that the maximum taxes were paid by all companies in East Hills that sought tax abatement through Industrial Development Agency. In both cases the Village and School District, along with other taxing agencies gained a guaranteed 3 and even 4% per year increase by the applicants. He introduced Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy, President, Clifford Saffron, Vice President, Stanley Stern, Dani E. Kline, Adam Haber, Bruce G. Valauri, and David Seinfeld. The Mayor also thanked all the dedicated civic association presidents and members, the dedicated chairman and board members of the committees and commissions, and all the staff. |
