Momementum Buids as Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy also Joins the Strong Voice of Opposition Friends and Neighbors, Recently it has come to my attention that there is an application pending before the TONH Board to permit expansion of the Green Cove Shopping Center (corner of Northern Blvd. and Glen Cove Rd.). Mayor Michael Koblenz and East Hills Trustees and Residents and John Fabio of Greenvale Civics Association and Greenvale Residents were advocating strongly against such expansion. The application of the developer was modified by a report of the Nassau County Planning Board (reducing permissible expansion from the requested 10,000 square feet to 6800, and requiring the maintaining of "buffers" on Town Path among other things. The TONH could still over ride the County Planning Board with a super majority. I did not learn of the matter until I read about it in the Roslyn News and then, the same day, received a call from a resident asking for my advice. It was after I studied the situation I learned that this could be extremely adversely impactful upon our Harbor Hill School, and that the "expert" traffic study upon which the developer's application relies did not take our elementary school on Glen Cove Road into consideration, which, in my view, makes it fatally flawed. (Please read my letter attached). The TONH needs to hear your views about this matter and the traffic that we contend with each day. They will likely decide this matter at their meeting on Tuesday May 18th when we are all busy with the School Budget Vote and Board Election and they are not taking any further comment except in writing. Please take a moment and email them today TONH Councilman Tom Dwyer at dwyert@northhempsteadny.gov and TONH Supervisor Jon Kaiman at kaimanj@northhempsteadny.gov and let them know that we want additional tax dollars but not at the expense of the safety of our children and our suburban way of life. In the meantime, and additionally, I have contacted Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink to help us with a safe passage grant for the Harbor Hill School. I promise you that if hundreds of emails are received by the Town Supervisor and the Council they will acknowledge the issue. Please help me help our kids and our schools. It takes just a moment---please do it today. Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy |
